Requirements to become a Mortgage Salesperson in Manitoba

An individual who wishes to become licensed as a Mortgage Salesperson in Manitoba must:

Education Course Details:

Mortgage Professionals Canada is pleased to be offering the Manitoba-specific Mortgage Salesperson licensing course approved by the Manitoba Securities Commission (MSC) for Mortgage Salesperson licensing under the Mortgage Brokers Act.

Individuals wanting to apply for a Mortgage Salesperson licence in Manitoba must successfully complete this course and successfully pass an in-person examination at a Mortgage Professionals Canada-approved testing centre. Exams must be written in Canada.

Module 5: Understanding the Mortgage Process
Module 6: Completing the Mortgage Application
Module 7: Qualifying the Borrower
Module 8: Mortgage Products, Related Products and Submitting the Application
Module 9: Valuing Property & the Decision to Lend
Module 10: The Closing Process
Module 11: Protecting Consumers and Increasing Industry Professionalism

Course Delivery Method:

The online course allows participants to study the material at their own pace. Registrants in the online course can complete the course in as little as two weeks (dedicated study), or use the full six-month timeframe.

Independent online study that provides an extensive explanation of the textbook material. It also includes application exercises for self-testing.

There is also a discussion forum which allows participants to post questions, connect with other self-study participants using discussion threads, communicate with the Forum Moderator and access supplemental materials.

The main information source for this course is the Online Tutorial and provided textbook. At the end of every Module, there is a key terms list, discussion questions, application exercises, and supplementary exercises to highlight the key points of each Module.

Evaluation:

To ensure that the material and assignments are adequately reviewed by each participant, all online modules must be completed before an exam can be scheduled.

*NOTE* a financial calculator is required for this course; calculators are available at most business supply stores.
Mortgage Professionals Canada provides instruction for the following models:

  • Hewlett Packard 10bII or 10bII+
  • Texas Instruments BAII+ or BAII+ professional

Exams:

Individuals wanting to apply for a Mortgage Salesperson licence in Manitoba must complete this course and successfully pass an in-person examination at a Mortgage Professionals Canada-approved testing centre within six (6) months of course registration. Exams must be written in Canada.

When you are ready to write the examination, contact Mortgage Professionals Canada to set up an exam sitting. Please note that 2-3 weeks' notice is required to set up exams. The exam format is multiple choice questions, each with the same weighting. The passing grade is set at 70%.
